Healdsburg's American Legion Independence Day Fireworks

The City is proud to support Healdsburg’s American Legion in the return of the annual Fourth of July fireworks show, and we are grateful for the financial support from the Healdsburg Tourism Improvement District for making this year’s show possible. Here are important updates for this year’s show that you should be aware of:

Where can I watch the fireworks?

Due to the size of this year’s show and to ensure spectator safety, viewing at the High School sports fields will not be available again this year. Viewing will be available at the Fitch Mountain Elementary School Campus, on the west side of the High School in the parking lot area, and throughout other points in the City. Most of the fireworks will be visible 200 feet in the air and higher so look for places that provide a good view of the sky above the High School.

In addition, this year we will be closing University Avenue from Badger Street to Monte Vista Avenue and Sanns Lane from University Avenue to Harold Lane for additional spectator viewing and better pedestrian access. No parking or vehicle traffic will be permitted on these streets from 6:00 p.m. - 11:00 p.m. on July 4th.

Will there be street closures around the High School?

Yes. University Avenue from Badger Street to Monte Vista Avenue and Sanns Lane from University Avenue to Harold Lane for additional spectator viewing and better pedestrian access. No parking or vehicle traffic will be permitted on these streets during this time.

What about the danger of fire?

Healdsburg Fire Department has been working closely with the Fireworks Operator on planning for this year’s show and will be monitoring weather conditions right up until the start of the show. If weather conditions are not favorable, the show will be rescheduled or cancelled. We’ll post updates on the City’s website (www.healdsburg.gov) and the City’s Facebook page (www.facebook.com/cityofhealdsburg) if conditions don’t allow the show to go on as planned.

Can I shoot off my own fireworks?

ALL fireworks are illegal in Sonoma, including fireworks identified as "Safe & Sane" and therefore not allowed. We are providing a professional public display for the enjoyment of our community. Anyone found shooting off fireworks will be subject to criminal penalties.

What time will the fireworks start and how long will they last?

We are planning to start at dark at 9:30 p.m. We will fire a test shot approximately 15 minutes before the show to check conditions. The show is expected to last approximately 20 minutes.

Tuesday in the Plaza Notice:

The City of Healdsburg is committed to making this year's Fourth of July festivities a memorable and enjoyable experience for all. While there will not be a Tuesday in the Plaza on Tuesday, July 4, 2023, we are focusing on producing an incredible Fourth of Celebration in the Plaza alongside the Rotary Club of Healdsburg Sunrise and annual Independence Day Fireworks Show in partnership with Healdsburg's American Legion. The City’s Police, Fire, Public Works, and Community Services teams – all who have a role in these special events - don’t have the staff capacity to deliver three major events on the July 4 holiday. This change will allow us to focus our resources on facilitating long-standing holiday traditions for our community.

Thank you for your understanding, we look forward to seeing you on July 4!
