What is Stormwater?

Storm water runoff occurs when rain or snowmelt flows over the ground. Impervious surfaces like driveways, sidewalks, and streets prevent storm water from naturally soaking onto the ground. When storm water cannot penetrate into the ground, it flows across surfaces to City storm drains or to local rivers and trubutaries. Stormwater that is not managed correctly can result in erosion, site damage, and sedimentation in our creeks and rivers.
